Medical Orchestras
John believes that music can be a powerful source of healing in our world, and that it therefore has a natural and necessary place in the world of medicine. Since stepping on the podium in front of the Yale Medical Symphony Orchestra as a college conductor in 2012, he has become one of the nation’s foremost medical music advocates. In 2018, he co-founded the Providence Medical Orchestra, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, collaborated with Richard Logothetis to build the National Virtual Medical Orchestra, an ensemble that brought together 100 medical musicians representing more than 15 medical orchestras. He works with the National Association of Medical Orchestras to advance the interests of medical musicians around the country.
